In 1963, Jack Heuer, son of Edward Heuer, the fourth generation of the Heuer family, began to create a chronograph specially designed for drivers and racing enthusiasts. A lifelong fan of motorsport, he understands what his clients want: a wide field of vision, easy-to-read numerals on the dial, and a robust case that is shock and water resistant for driving. In 1964, when Jack Heuer was the timekeeper for the 12 Hours of Sebring, he met two talented young drivers: the Rodriguez brothers. The two talked to him about a legendary race: the Carrera Pan Americana Mexico Road Race in the 1950s, which lasted 5 days and covered 3,300 kilometers across Mexico. The Carrera Pan Americana was the most famous and Dangerous Enduro. He was immediately drawn to the event and named the TAG Heuer Carrera for a hand-wound mechanical chronograph that was launched in the same year. Carrera also means passion, adventure and heroism in Spanish.
The TAG Heuer Carrera replica watches series continues to evolve with the times. Motorsport has always been the eternal source of inspiration for Carrera, but it is the superb watchmaking technology that drives the continuous development of this series of watches. In 2010, the Carrera Calibre 1887 chronograph (41mm) equipped with TAG Heuer's first self-developed movement turned out to be the best watch of the year.
