Breitling makes pilot's watches. A lot of pretty cool ones, too. The Breitling Aviator 8 takes this aviation inspiration the brand is known for and strips back everything else. This means the dial designs are simpler and the cases are often smaller, with the various complications of the range communicating only what's absolutely necessary. The Aviator 8 collection relies on these vintage styling cues, but updates everything else with modern technology, materials, and build quality. The time-only Breitling Aviator 8 features a 41mm stainless steel case that sits 11mm in thickness, seen here with a blue dial. The date at six o'clock fits nicely alongside the Arabic numerals, about as uncontroversial and useful as a date window can be. The slightly knurled bezel evokes Breitling's aviation heritage, without being overbearing. The replica Breitling Aviator 8 also features a range of complications – most notably a chronograph, but also a day-date, as seen here, with the day rendered atop the dial at 12 o'clock. In all, the Aviator 8 collection offers a wonderful compromise for those who love Breitling's aviation-inspired tool watch heritage.
Replica Breitling Aviator 8 Chronograph Curtiss Warhawk, inspired by the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, one of the legendary warplanes of World War II. The Aviator 8 Curtiss P-40 Warhawk Collection, which the brand added to its product line in 2019, consists of three different models in total. The collection, which houses two chronograph models and a three-handed model, draws attention with its mutual theme, the khaki green color. The model we hosted in our review corner, Ref. A133161A1L1X1, is one of the chronograph models. The watch comes in a 43mm diameter case made of stainless steel. On the front of the case, there is a thin metal bezel that can rotate in two directions and a curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. The steel case back features a very stylish Curtiss P-40 Warhawk illustration. The dial, which has Arabic numeral indices and Super-LumiNOVA filled baton hands, reinforces its sporty side with red accents. Hosting day and date functions with black background discs, the dial provides sufficient legibility in almost any environment.
